Description of Significance: 

The mukoku is a type of slit drum crafted by the Yaka people of the southwestern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This instrument holds great significance in Yaka culture, as it was traditionally used for divination purposes.

In addition to being played by diviners, the mukoku would also serve as a container for divinatory medicines. Its unique design and construction, featuring a long slit down the center, allows for a distinct range of sounds to be produced. The mukoku is a testament to the Yaka people's rich cultural heritage and their deep connection to both music and spiritual practices.
