Description of Significance

The Ashanti people reside in the southern region of Ghana, known as the Ashanti region, which was once the Ashanti Empire. They have a rich tradition of metalworking, often utilizing bronze or gold casting techniques.

This particular artifact is a gold leaf covered wooden finial that would have been used by an Ashanti Linguist. It was placed on the top of a long staff as a symbol of their position and authority.
