Chin Rest, Ethiopia

Description of Significance

This metal chin rest comes from Ethiopia, where pieces like this were used by priests and other religious figures during long hours of prayer. Made to sit on top of a tall staff, the simple T-shaped form allowed the user to rest their chin while remaining upright, offering quiet support during extended services. Each chin rest was forged by hand, and no two are exactly alike. There’s a directness to the design—practical, restrained, and shaped by use—that reflects both the discipline of devotion and the skill of the metalworker who made it.

Paying a fair price in Africa  is our number one priority and our pricing reflects that.
