Baule Kpan masks come from the Baule people of Ivory Coast and are associated with the Goli masquerade tradition. Kpan is often described as the senior female mask within the Goli sequence, recognized for its human face, refined features, and graceful presence. Unlike the more abstract or animal-form Goli masks, Kpan masks emphasize beauty, dignity, and balance.
This Baule Kpan mask reflects the elegance of West African mask carving, with a composed face and sculptural form that make it a strong decorative piece as well as an example of traditional African artwork.
