Ashanti Axe, Ghana
The Ashanti live in the Ashanti region of southern Ghana, which is the remnant of the Ashanti Empire. The Ashanti had metal art, often cast from bronze or gold.
State swords like this one would be made of bronze with the wooden handle covered in gold leaf.
The finial would have belonged to an Ashanti Linguist and placed on top of a long staff. It is gold leaf covered wood.
