Dogon Horse Mask, Mali
The Dogon people live in the central region of Mali. Dogon masks are known for the boldness of the geometric shapes, regardless of what they are depicting. The masks tend to be painted in many colors, but deteriorate after use. The almost monochromic look of these masks indicates that it was used often in ceremonies.
Dogon masking seemingly has a funerary function, but it touches upon many aspects of life and thought.
